The National Technical University of Athens will celebrate 190 years of its pioneering journey in academic excellence and contribution to society with a special and rich anniversary edition. The entire history of our emblematic Technical University will be designed for the first time, based on extensive new research and full utilization of available literature.

The Technical University of Athens follows the same historical path as the new Greek state. The history of the Technical University is part of the history of the country, given that our emblematic Institution has contributed greatly to the development and progress of our society and people.

It is, therefore, important that the history of NTUA be recorded in a scientific manner and that the work become a textbook of Greek historiography. We owe it to our graduates, our current and future students, we owe it to our community and of course we owe it to our nation, given that the journey of our graduates has transcended our geographical borders.

Upon the recommendation of the Rector of NTUA, Professor Ioannis K. Hadjigeorgiou, and with the approval of the Senate, the work of researching and crafting the anniversary edition was assigned to Professor of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Mr. Aristotle Tympas. According to the schedule, the design of the edition will begin in March 2025 and will be completed in February 2027.

Mr. Aristotle Tympas, Professor at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens with a focus on the History of Technology in Modern Times, has served as President and Director of the History Section of the Department of History and Philosophy of Science, as well as Chair of the Network of European Historians of Technology ‘Tensions of Europe: Research Network on History, Technology and Europe’, while he is Vice President responsible for research of the International Master’s Program on Society, Science and Technology (ESST).His research has been supported by international grants (NSF, IEEE History Center, Smithsonian, Hagley, Chemical Heritage Foundation) and research programs (ESF, EU FP7, EU Horizon 2020, EU Creative Europe, Erasmus+, COST).

Mr. Tympas and his collaborators will be assisted by the editorial committee consisting of I. K. Hatzigeorgiou, Rector of NTUA, S. Theodoridis, Professor Emeritus of NKUA and external member of the NTUA Board of Directors, and P. Tournikiotis, Professor Emeritus of NTUA. Additionally, an advisory role will be played by the ad-hoc committee established by representatives of the NTUA Schools, consisting of: D. Koutsoyiannis, Emeritus Professor of the Faculty of School of Civil Engineering, N. Marmaras, Emeritus Professor of the Faculty of School of Mechanical Engineering, N. Hatziargyriou, Emeritus Professor of the Faculty of School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, N. Belavilas, Professor of the Faculty of Architecture, I. Kalogirou, Emeritus Professor of the Faculty of School of Chemical Engineering, Ch. Ioannidis, Professor of the Faculty of School of Rural, Surveying and Geoinformatics Engineering, K. Tsakalakis, Emeritus Professor of the Faculty of School of Mining and Metallurgical Engineering, S. Mavrakos, Emeritus Professor of the Faculty of School of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering and K. Theologos, Professor of the Faculty of School of Applied Mathematical and Physical SciencesThe anniversary edition will include rare photographic material and personal narratives, while the structure will consist of three sections: (1) the history of the formation of the NTUA Schools and the respective subjects of education (2), the history of the NTUA community's response to key moments in the history of Greece, through, among other things, important technical projects, research and other actions (3), the history of the distinctive positioning of NTUA and its graduates in the international network of  technical educational and research institutions.

The research and writing will be supported by a three-member team of researchers, postdoctoral fellows or doctoral candidates in the phase of completing their doctoral dissertation, with studies in the history of technology.

Υπενθυμίζουμε ότι το Ίδρυμα «Δ. Χωραφά» θα χορηγήσει για το έτος 2025 δύο βραβεία, ύψους $10.000 το καθένα, σε υποψήφιους διδάκτορες και διδάκτορες του Ε.Μ.Π. με ώριμο, πρωτοποριακό και μεγάλης εμβέλειας ερευνητικό έργο στις εξής θεματικές περιοχές:

Προϋποθέσεις
Οι υποψήφιοι πρέπει:
να έχουν ηλικία μέχρι 32 ετών (ήτοι να έχουν γεννηθεί από την 01 Ιουνίου 1993 και μετά),
να έχουν ολοκληρώσει τις διδακτορικές σπουδές τους από την 1η Ιουνίου 2024 έως και τις 31 Δεκεμβρίου 2025,
να μην έχουν λάβει το εν λόγω βραβείο στο παρελθόν.

Οι ενδιαφερόμενοι πρέπει να καταθέσουν ηλεκτρονικά, μέχρι και τις 04.04.2025, αίτηση συμμετοχής στη Γραμματεία της Σχολής τους με τα απαιτούμενα δικαιολογητικά.
Οι δύο (2) συστατικές επιστολές στην αγγλική γλώσσα (αρχείο PDF), με την προσφώνηση «Dear members of the Board», εκ των οποίων η μία από τον επιβλέποντα της διδακτορικής διατριβής  θα αποστέλλονται ηλεκτρονικά στη Γραμματεία της Σχολής από τους συντάκτες τους και όχι από τους υποψηφίους. Οι τελευταίοι θα πρέπει να αναγράφουν τα ονόματα των συντακτών στο ηλεκτρονικό τους μήνυμα, κατά την αποστολή των δικαιολογητικών τους.

Την Πέμπτη, 6 Μαρτίου, ο Πρύτανης του ΕΜΠ, Καθηγητής Ιωάννης Κ. Χατζηγεωργίου υποδέχθηκε στο Τεχνολογικό και Πολιτιστικό Πάρκο Λαυρίου, την Πρέσβειρα της Γαλλίας στην Ελλάδα κα. Laurence Auer και τους συνεργάτες της σε προγραμματισμένη επίσκεψή της. Την Πρέσβειρα και την διπλωματική της ακολουθία υποδέχθηκαν επίσης ο Αντιπρόεδρος της Εταιρείας Αξιοποίησης και Διαχείρισης της Περιουσίας του ΕΜΠ (ΕΑΔΙΠ ΕΜΠ/ΤΠΠΛ) και μέλος του Συμβουλίου Διοίκησης του Ιδρύματος, Καθηγητής Δημήτρης Καλιαμπάκος, ο Επιστημονικός Υπεύθυνος των έργων του Μουσείου Μεταλλείας Μεταλλουργίας και Ιστορικών Αρχείων Καθηγητής Νίκος Μπελαβίλας, ο Διευθυντής του ΤΠΠΛ κ. Ασημάκης Χαδουμέλλης , η κα. Μαρία Βαρδάκη , Εκτελεστική Διευθύντρια του ΕΜΠ, καθώς  και στελέχη του ΤΠΠΛ και του ΕΜΠ. Την Πρέσβειρα συνόδευαν ο Δρ. Mathieu Abgrall, Ακόλουθος Επιστημονικής και Πανεπιστημιακής Συνεργασίας και Αναπληρωτής Διευθυντής του Γαλλικού Ινστιτούτου Ελλάδας (ΓΙΕ), η κα. Κατερίνα Σπυροπούλου, Αναπληρώτρια του ίδιου τμήματος και του ΓΙΕ και ο κ. Christian Fatras, Αναπληρωτής Επικεφαλής της Περιφερειακής Οικονομικής Υπηρεσίας τεσσάρων χωρών.

Ο Πρύτανης του ΕΜΠ, αφού έκανε μια εισαγωγή για το ΕΜΠ και το ΤΠΠΛ, έδωσε το λόγο στον κ. Καλιαμπάκο ο οποίος παρουσίασε την ιστορία του Πάρκου, τη σύγχρονη λειτουργία του και τις μελλοντικές του προοπτικές. Η Πρέσβειρα και οι συνεργάτες της ξεναγήθηκαν στους χώρους του Πάρκου,  στο εν εξελίξει έργο του Μουσείου Μεταλλείας Μεταλλουργίας Λαυρίου και στις ανακαινισμένες εγκαταστάσεις του πρώην Γαλλικού Μεταλλευτικού Συγκροτήματος «Γαλλική Εταιρεία Μεταλλείων Λαυρίου». Είδαν επίσης αποσπάσματα σπάνιων ιστορικών αρχείων που θα εκτίθενται εκεί και επισκέφθηκαν τον ιστορικό Ηλεκτρικό Σταθμό που θα ανακαινιστεί για να φιλοξενεί τον Υπερυπολογιστή “ΔΑΙΔΑΛΟ” του Εθνικού Δικτύου Τεχνολογίας και Έρευνας (ΕΔΥΤΕ).

Αξίζει να σημειωθεί ότι ο «ΔΑΙΔΑΛΟΣ/ DAEDALUS» του ΕΔΥΤΕ είναι ένας από τους ισχυρότερους υπερυπολογιστές νέας γενιάς διεθνώς. Ο χώρος θα είναι ανοιχτός στο κοινό για επισκέψεις τόσο του Υπερυπολογιστή όσο και του ίδιου του διατηρητέου κτιρίου και του βιομηχανικού του εξοπλισμού.

Η Πρέσβειρα και οι συνεργάτες δήλωσαν ενθουσιασμένοι με την επίσκεψη αυτή, η οποία φιλοδοξούμε να αποτελέσει έναυσμα για νέες επιστημονικές και πολιτιστικές συνεργατικές προοπτικές και για τις δύο χώρες στην κατεύθυνση της περαιτέρω ενίσχυσης των εξαιρετικών σχέσεων Ελλάδας Γαλλίας

On Tuesday, March 11, distinguished members of the academic and business world, professors and students, attended with great interest the discussion entitled “From Lab to Market: Fueling Greece’s Innovation”, exploring how higher education institutions can bridge academic research and markets to create. to create successful innovation ecosystems.

The event took place at the National Technical University of Athens and was organized by the Columbia Global Center in Athens in collaboration with the National Technical University of Athens and Endeavor.

Key points from the discussion included exploring the creation of hands-on learning environments and targeted activities – such as bootcamps, hackathons and mentoring programs, as well as dedicated facilities aimed at better equipping students and researchers with the tools they need to transform their research into innovative solutions for wider use.

Initial Remarks were delivered by the Rector of NTUA, Professor Ioannis K. Hadjigeorgiou, and Mr. Stefano Gandolfo, Director of the Columbia Global Center in Athens.

Η ομιλία εντάσσεται στη σειρά εκδηλώσεων και δράσεων της ΣΕΜΦΕ με τίτλο ”Κβαντική Άνοιξη”.

Η αντιμετώπιση σύγχρονων περιβαλλοντικών προκλήσεων αποτελεί ένα από τα μείζονα ζητήματα της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης (Ε.Ε.). Οι περιβαλλοντικές, οικονομικές, κοινωνικές και τεχνολογικές προκλήσεις που προκύπτουν, προσκαλούν τόσο τον ιδιωτικό όσο και τον δημόσιο τομέα να προσαρμοστούν μέσω χάραξης πολιτικής, στοχοθεσίας και δημιουργίας εξειδικευμένων, πράσινων, θέσεων εργασίας.

Πρόσφατες μελέτες έχουν αναδείξει την επίδραση της Πράσινης Μετάβασης, με το 40% των εργαζομένων να χρειάζεται επανεκπαίδευση έως το 2030 (World Economic Forum, 2023). Στην Ευρώπη, προβλέπονται περίπου 800.000 νέες θέσεις εργασίας ενώ, στην Ελλάδα η Δημόσια Υπηρεσία Απασχόλησης έχει ανακοινώσει τον στόχο της να έχουν πιστοποιηθεί σε ψηφιακές και πράσινες δεξιότητες 500.000 Έλληνες έως το 2025.

Συνεπώς, η ανάπτυξη «πράσινων δεξιοτήτων» καθίσταται κρίσιμη για τους επαγγελματίες και ιδιαίτερα για τους μηχανικούς, που βρίσκονται στην αιχμή των τεχνολογικών αλλαγών. Η Ε.Ε., μεταξύ αλλων, προωθεί σχετικές δράσεις και κινητροδοτεί την πράσινη μετάβαση. Σε αυτό το πλαίσιο, η εκπαίδευση και η απόκτηση νέων πράσινων δεξιοτήτων, πέρα από αναγκαιότητα, είναι μια ευκαιρία για ευθυγράμμιση με την πράσινη μετάβαση και τη διαμόρφωση ενός πρασίνου αύριο.

Θέλεις να γίνεις μέρος αυτής της μετάβασης, να πληροφορηθείς για τον ανερχόμενο ρόλο των πράσινων δεξιοτήτων στην αγορά εργασίας, καθώς και να εκπαιδευτείς στην πράξη με την βοήθεια έμπειρων μεντόρων;

Τότε δήλωσε συμμετοχή δωρεάν στην δράση «Πράσινες Δεξιότητες: Διαμορφώνοντας το αύριο» που θα διεξαχθεί την Τρίτη 08 Απριλίου και ώρες 10:00 - 19:00 στις Αίθουσες Πολυμέσων της Κεντρικής Βιβλιοθήκης ΕΜΠ.

Η εκδήλωση αποτελείται από δύο (2) μέρη. Στο Α’ μέρος περιλαμβάνονται εξειδικευμένες παρουσιάσεις, θεματικές συζητήσεις καθώς και έκπληξη από την βιομηχανία, με την εκδήλωση να ολοκληρώνεται με τη διεξαγωγή διαδραστικών εργαστηρίων με τίτλους “Fire-Protecting our Forests (FPF)” και “Forging our Sustainable Cities (FSC)” (Β’ μέρος). Μεταξύ του Α’ και Β’ Μέρους, θα πραγματοποιηθεί διάλειμμα για φαγητό και ευκαιρία για δικτύωση. Σύντομα θα ανακοινωθεί το αναλυτικό πρόγραμμα.

ΚΑΤΑΛΗΚΤΙΚΗ ΗΜΕΡΟΜΗΝΙΑ ΥΠΟΒΟΛΗΣ: 02-04-2025

The country's largest and oldest Technological Institute opened its gates for three days and welcomed thousands of elementary, middle and high school students as well as individuals, proving that it is a vibrant, hospitable, public and open space that belongs to all Greek citizens. All nine Schools of the Foundation participated and received a total of over 4,500 visitors. The event was so popular since until the last day we were receiving requests for visits.

Young and old alike enthusiastically attended the unique "Open Labs" initiative of NTUA, where the academic staff and researchers of the institution with the valuable support of the administrative staff, proudly shared with them the exciting experience of the research projects , performed in 43 of the 160 officially established laboratories of NTUA, highlighting the pioneering research and innovative work carried out at the country's first institution. For three days, the Polytechnic Campus was filled with happy voices and smiles from enthusiastic visitors, most of whom were young children, creating a great celebration with their presence. The celebration of learning and excellence, the most important components and goals of the institution . Everyone, students, accompanying teachers and professors and ordinary visitors, had the unique experience of seeing earthquake simulations, port models, wind tunnel model tests, new technology vehicle models, high-voltage systems, innovative constructions based on new materials, synthesis methods, remote sensing systems, electronic microanalysis methods, towing tests of model ships, quantum computers and many more.

«The goal is for young people who envision studying at NTUA to be inspired by the teaching spaces and the interaction with the professors and researchers of the most important Technological Institute in the country» stated the Rector of NTUA, Professor Ioannis Hadjigeorgiou, additionally pointing out that the "Open Laboratories" initiative is fully in line with the tradition and vision of NTUA for contribution to society as a whole and that it constitutes another step towards extroversion and more direct communication with Greek citizens.

The success of the action was the result of a collective effort by all the staff of the Institution, of all departments and levels. However, for the exemplary organization which lasted more than 4 months with continuous and painstaking effort, credit is due to the Head of the Office of the Rector of NTUA, Ms. Lia Nikolaidou.

We are committed in setting an appointment for next year in order to re-organize the "Open Labs" event and reopen the gates of NTUA, looking forward to an even greater turnout of visitors to welcome them to the hospitable spaces of NTUA.
